When I was 'working' for BizInfoPlus, I had the servers connected to OSD32 Lines. During this time I decided to test a few of my friends' broadband connections with it. I found some strange findings:
-FIOS is not as fast as they claim to be. I had servers connected to fiber optic and copper wire connections and expecting FIOS to be faster, it was not. In fact it was slower than Roadrunner.
-EarthLink and Roadrunner Broadband averaged 6mb/sec downloads and .75mb/sec
-Advertised FIOS claims you get: 50/20 Mbps for $84/month. Roadrunner sells: 7 Mbps -at- $55/month. For $10 more you can upgrade to 15 Mbps. EarthLink charges $21 for the first 6months for 7.0mbps / 768k, then goes up to $41/month.
None of these services I seen go above 10MB. In fact I see it as a conspiracy. The measurements are not made at the CPU end of the network but at the DSL Modem End. The average output of the DSL Modem is that of a 10T Router, which is 10/mbs
Now, replace that with a 100T version, then you get some speed, but no faster than 12/mbs. Then the following month you get a letter from the company that you have somehow hacked the line for a faster speed (seen it with Verison FIOS) even though they claim that you can have up to 50/mbs, they do not want you to go poast ten. People have taken Verison to court for this, with Verizon willing to settle out of court in most cases.
What what will that say of this so-called broadband test? They will probably see the same thing I saw. Wht improvement will come from it, remains to be seen.
