Richard Darst - on - The Debian Packaging System (Debian, Ubuntu, Knoppix, Fink, Mint, gNewSense)
The Debian packaging system is much more than dpkg and apt-get. There are many other features and utilities which can make life easier and more enjoyable for the casual user and the sysadmin. These tools apply not only to Debian, but to other distributions using the dpkg/APT packaging system such as Ubuntu and Fink.
This talk will begin by explaining some nomenclature and concepts behind the Debian packaging system, then move to advanced usage of the basic tools and finally a summary of other related utilities.

About Richard Darst: Richard Darst is an advocate of Free Software, a longtime Debian user, and became involved in the Debian project by helping to secure DebConf10 for New York City before helping organize and run DebConf10. Since that running start, he has become a contributor to a number of free software projects and communities in and outside of the New York area. He has presented at NYLUG in September 2009 and has become a valued volunteer on the video crew. Richard is currently a graduate student in chemical physics at Columbia University, and is a member of the informal DebianNYC group which meets in various places to hold workshops and socialize.
Meeting Location: Please note that this meeting will be held at IBM, 590 Madison Ave, 12th floor, corner of 57th Street, and not at Google. This is the building with the IBM logo on the front of the building.
