My recollection about setting that up a year or so ago was a similar feeling. I remember Googling for a manual for the Cisco, but I don't think that was the problem. For some reason I've got it in my head that they'd hooked it up with the wrong cable. (needed a crossover) I did spend a certain amount of time on the phone with Optimum before it all worked, but I think that was just because my client forgot to get a static IP package. Should be at least a bit faster than what you had when it's all over, hopefully making you feel the aggravation was worth it.
