that's hilarious
I have one of those new HP mini laptops that came with "HP Mobile
internet (Mi) software built on Linux " ( Ubuntu with a proprietary
windows manager). the funny thing is my HP LaserJet P1005 printer
works on it right out of the box due to a piece of software that was
bundled on it http://hplipopensource.com/ which is a project hp that
sponsors and even has links to on their site

oh and if you look at the compatibility page that lists the supported
multifunction printers

it tells you if the scanner work with sane or other software on Linux
and even which distros and versions of the distro it been successfully
tested on.
