that's hilarious I have one of those new HP mini laptops that came with "HP Mobile internet (Mi) software built on Linux " ( Ubuntu with a proprietary windows manager). the funny thing is my HP LaserJet P1005 printer works on it right out of the box due to a piece of software that was bundled on it http://hplipopensource.com/ which is a project hp that sponsors and even has links to on their site http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolutions/linux/products/printing_imaging/index.html oh and if you look at the compatibility page that lists the supported multifunction printers http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/supported_devices/deskjet_aio.html it tells you if the scanner work with sane or other software on Linux and even which distros and versions of the distro it been successfully tested on.
