SUBJECT | Subject: [NYLXS - HANGOUT] Looooong Island Rail Road & Linux
|
Folks, I was going from the LIRR to the B/Q subway at Atlantic Avenue. A guy was fixing the big screen monitors of the LIRR time table schedules. And guess what. The "guts" of the screen system is Linux!!! I asked the guy what distro but he didn't know. He said the operating system is built into the monitor. I mentioned that the subway ticket machines are windoze and he said he knew and then he laughed. The company is www.solari.it. Yes, an Italian company. Is there anybody out there who would like to take a crack at trying to get the contract/concession to maintain these screens? The guy doing this is a contractor (he told me). AND he said he doesn't know much about Linux. In fact, he was doing everything from a hand-written script on a peice of paper. Thanks for reading, swd
