OK, after hunting around for a bit, I found this solution at experts-exchange:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Programming/Languages/.NET/Visual_Basic.NET/Q_23678096.html
(it's a subscription service, so I just copied the question and answer here)
question: Im trying to find a currency converter webservice. Google has a Finance API but I can't seem to figure out how to do currency conversion using it. Does anybody know if the Finance API can do currency conversion, or any other suitable converter web services?
answer: This is a webservice which has the required methods. http://www.webservicex.net/WS/WSDetails.aspx?CATID=2&WSID=10
WSDL Schema Location http://www.webservicex.net/CurrencyConvertor.asmx?WSDL
Anyway, the Android SDK uses Java, anyone interested can find relevent info here: http://code.google.com/android/download_list.html
I think the currency converter is a great idea. It's simple, useful, and it hasn't been done on the phone yet. Let's do it!
