TECHNICAL LEAD
* A good communicator with a proven track record of interacting with
upper management to cross translate technical and business concepts and
issues into the comfortable language, both written and spoken, of the
audience.
* Some project management experience with a clear understanding of
both general lifecycle and iterate software development methods (such as
agile or XP), a clear understanding of QA and QC usage under these
methodologies, and some experience interacting with external QA or Program
Management.
* Out of the box thinker, must be quick and motivated in researching
and learning new technologies and applying these technologies in a dynamic
business environment.
* Proactive and troubleshooting mindset with exceptional debugging,
management, and measurement skills both within a software engineering
context and within a server administration framework.
* Experience in compiling, installing, integrating, and
troubleshooting large number of Open Source libraries / run time components
under a multi-server architecture.
* Experience with integrating multiple third party tools from web
service providers and managing relationships to those providers to resolve
ongoing issues and upgrades.
* Experience with communicating and managing tasks with
hardware/network service providers.
* Basic knowledge of CPC / CPM Web advertising revenue and marketing
concepts.
* Past experience owning and being responsible for site/server uptime.
* Security - Grounding and experience in fundamental concepts -
public/private key encryption, server authentication, apache vulnerability
lock down practices, SSL certification.
* Networking - DNS /CDN setup fundamentals and experience.
Understanding of bulk data transfer protocols.
* Must show a significant ongoing career expertise in SQL database
usage with a specialized skill on complex retrieval methods and advanced SQL
tuning and design. Database setup, design, and DBA experience is also
highly desirable.
* Expert programming experience and knowledge of automating web
service calls, data feeds, ETL parsing. Search engine and external feed
experience is highly desirable.
* Expert level data parsing skills with a concentration on web
analytics and reporting using server side log files. Some Data warehousing
experience is highly desirable.
* Proven understanding and experience in MVC web architecture, Object
Oriented and Pattern Programming.
* Proven understanding and experience in data recovery and control
methods, such as failover, error point recovery, duplex caching, locking and
contention strategies etc.
* Experience in developing daemon services highly desirable.
* Exposure and some experience integrating external web analytic
service providers such as unica, coremetrics, omniture, or webtrends.
* Some experience in build script development, deployment, and other
software development controls and concepts.
* Web architecture design experience highly desirable.
* Previous startup or software engineering firm experience highly
desirable.
Technology Tools Summary:
* Apache - expert skill set and experience in installing, upgrading,
debugging, tuning, and managing Apache in a multi server environment. Usage
of Apache system measurement tools highly desirable.
* Linux - expert skill set and experience in administrative, security,
and management of Linux.
* mySQL - expert skill set - must have configuration/setup,
administrative, security, programming, and advanced tuning experience.
* Perl - expert skill set - must understand and have used Object
Oriented concepts within Perl language constraints.
* mod_perl - expert skill set or recent experience on dedicated
mod_perl project.
* XML - DOM and SAX parser mid-level expertise.
* bash programming - proven ongoing career use. mid-level expertise.
* C / C++ and Windows programming - some exposure and experience
desirable.
* Java and Netbeans - some exposure and experience desirable.
* CVS - some management and configuration experience is highly
desirable.
* memcached - desirable or other caching library exposure (ex. JCS,
etc).
* imagemagick - desirable or exposure to other image rendering
libraries (ex. GD Graphics etc).
* HTML::Template - desirable or other exposure to library used for
controlled page rendering (e.g. Smarty, CHIP, FreeMarker, PHPLib,
vLibTemplate, ClearSilver, XSLT, etc).
* MS Office, Project Management tool use etc.
Education Summary:
* Minimum of BSCS degree or similar.
* 7 or more years of professional experience developing web-based
applications.
