That would depend on whether the BIOS supports booting from a flash drive. Slax, puppy and Knoppix had a way of doing this. I'll look it up on the Orielly Hack Knoppix book I have.

Isn't there a straight way to make a boot flash drive from something like the openSuSE DVD, that is the install disk, not the live version?
Everything I read uses a liveCD then basically installing the OS to the flash drive instead of a hard drive. That is not what I really want to do.
