It just like with a classroom; if a teacher as a book or other printed material, she can copy a few segments from it to hand out to his/her students. But she can not sell the copied materials itself to the students (or anyone else) nor she can not copy the whole thing and distribute that as a whole.

If you mean the church no it won't be sold. The publisher will still be selling it.

Due to the nature of the book I expect there are those who would physicaly damage it (with maliace), and those who would make off with parts (if not the whole book) of it. Under fair use can the church make a copy to be used and the original be put in a safe place?
As long as they aren't selling it.
