SUBJECT | Subject: [NYLXS - HANGOUT] Why is healthcare software costing lives?
|
Over the last few years I've had the oppurtunity to look up close hospital software from a number of institutions. The promise of software and digital systems to the healthcare system was improved healthcare, increased accountability, and focusing healthcare providers on healing the sick rather than ruffling the paperwork. Healthcare is all about information, the access of information, the production of medical education, the disemination of medical results, the statisitical analysis of medical procedures, and the application of firm medical principles and discovery to practicle problem solving in order to save lives and increase the quality of life.
And yet, studies are showing that the implimentation of Physician Order Entry is killing patients. Why?
This is going to be the first in a series of discussions on the problems with healthcare software, "Why is our software killing us in the hospital" from an insiders look of a healthcare provider with exensive IT expereince.
We will also be having an NYLXS open panel discussion on these issues in the near future.
