Hi Ruben;
I came across some older SQL-Ledger posts from 2002 and, based on my experience with Dieter, assumed that all didn't go well. I thought it might be worth letting you know of a community-centric fork of SQL-Ledger which has been gaining momentum called LedgerSMB.
The initial goal of LedgerSMB was to essentially offer something like SQL-Ledger with better security, data integrity controls, and so forth. We forked about six months ago when Dieter decided not to fix a gaping security hole (he did fix it after we forked), and we have been gaining momentum ever since. Evidently we are seen as a threat because he summarily changed the license of SQL-Ledger away from the GPL for version 2.8.0.
Anyway, I am not sure if you are still interested in being involved in an open source accounting program, but if you are, please check us out at http://www.ledgersmb.org/
And we welcome user contributions, big or small.
Best Wishes, Chris Travers
