art site needs programmer Reply to: gigs-299045052-at-craigslist.org Date: 2007-03-23, 12:05PM EDT
I am in no way technically inclined so if my info is incomplete please be specific in your questions.
Non-profit artist community looking for programmer to help with new site. This site needs applications, it has a member log in. This is not a simple little website. Please take this into consideration. We do not need a webmaster or any sort of ongoing tech support. Just a new site up and running.
Nervousness.org is a non-profit artist community that trades different mail art like artist trading cards, altered books, art dolls, traveling journals. If you've ever heard of the 1000 journals project or swap-bot... we are in that vein. Take a look at those sites.
Our old main site went down some time ago. No one on our board of directors is tech qualified. There were some complications. The community has been run from a our sister message board. The new website will look and have a lot of the same features as the old website. To understand what it looked like I can only direct you to an internet archive. And I cannot give you a direct link. You have to do the search yourself.

Welcome to nervousness. As you can see there is a homepage. There is a log in area for members. Next there is an objects page. Objects are art projects people form all over the world sign up to receive. Members can add a project at anytime. Click on any object int he list. This takes you to a page with the project info and a list of signed up participants. Click on a participants name and this sends you to that user's page which has a list of all their current and past projects, their contact info and at the bottom of the page an area where other user's can post questions to them. Each user has a feedback rating which you can see when you click any users name. there will be a page listing exchanges. and a community gallery where user's can upload and comment on their art.
If you can handle this sort of design please read on.
The basic situation right now is this:
++ we have a server our host has given us this info: Operating System: Linux Kernel Version: 2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp Apache Version: 1.3.37 Perl Version: 5.8.7 Php Version: 4.4.4 MySQL Version: 4.0.27-standard
++ we have dvd copies of incomplete data from the old site but page templates are available. ++ we'd like a new site to be designed either form existing code or to start over completely, whichever is cheaper. ++ we'd like the new site to be very similar to the look and function of the old one.
What we need is a programmer. Since we are a non profit art community we'd like to appeal to individuals who support free art as well as students and or recent grads who are just starting out in the business and are hungry to add such a project to their portfolio. We have a budget for this though so we aren't asking for a handout. I can pretty much guarantee that whoever programs our site will receive some beautifully handmade cards, postcards, miniature art works and such as a thanks from our community. I am the only representative of nervousness that lives in nyc so you'd be dealing with me in person and on the phone/email with the board of director's as this is their site. This is a professional job so a contract of some sort would be involved.
When responding please give me as much info as possibly. Rates, how long the project would take in your estimation, etc.
Thank you!!!!!!!!
