No, it's not locked-down (see below), Nokia actually wants you to write apps for it. What they're apparently not looking to have you do is reflash the unit with something other than their image, but that's beside the point of this discussion.

Sorry I'm so late in catching up here. First, before you argue with me, let's get one thing clear, I don't agree with Nokia's choices. I would have put the terminal program in there for you if I were Nokia. That said, I understand what they've done and it's easy to explain. They obviously don't want "Joe User" running into anything vaguely looking like a PC. The device is supposed to have that kind of Apple-ish thing that appeals to people who have fear and loathing of accidentally falling into a shell.
Ok, so now that you understand what they're doing, feel free to send them some feedback telling them they got it wrong. I'd agree with that. It *is* a PIA to customize it, but not because Nokia doesn't want you to. They have a whole community web site about it. It's a PIA because you have to go out to the Internet and find the community site, and it's a lot less convenient than it should be since I doubt people are really going to buy the thing to run just the installed software, which I personally find completely uninteresting, other than the browser and the FM radio. Oh, did you know there's an FM radio in it?
