SUBJECT | Subject: [NYLXS - HANGOUT] Re: [nylug-talk] Freedom-IT and Lake Placid
|
I wanted to thank everyone who helped make Freedom-IT this year a success. I've started writing the discussions about next years Freedom-IT event. I'm not happy with what I write up write now, but I figure I'll release what I have. Generally we usually have so much more detail prior to an initial release and we will be retaining a lot of the details from the previous Freedom-IT planning which had a more fleshed out master plan. Never the less, here is what I have
Freedom-IT Planning
This past month NYLXS took its annual winter trip to Lake Placid to celebrate it's second Freedom-IT Festival. While the turnout was light, many important discussions and decisions were made to turn Freedom-IT into the premire Free Software educational program east of the Missisippi. During our discussions we resolved on the following action plan for growing Freedom-IT.
Freedom-IT mission:
The mission of Freedom-IT will be to showcase the best educational continuing education program which can be made available on a yearly basis in Lake Placid New York.
Location: Lake Placid has been chosen because it already serves as a world class resort which services the entire North East Region from Toranto, Canada to Philedephia. Major cities which are in easy reach include Ottawa, Quebec, Montreal, Portland, Boston, New York, Buffalo, and Rochester are all within driving range. In addition, midwestern cities as far as Ohio, Michigan and even Illinois are within reasonable reach with planning. Lake Placid has enjoyed 2 winter Olympics and is nestled in an area of the country which while sufficiently secluded to be give a maximum vacation experinece, it is still close enough to civilization and has suffiieceint facilities to make an idea place for learning and networking.
Planning: Freedom-IT will be taking suggestions for subjects over the next 2 months to be presented at Freedom-IT 2008. We will be creating lists of individuals to teach each presentation, going after the best individuals and then working down the list to the second best person until we get the best presenter available.
Funding: Presentations will be funded by conference fees
