For those of you who have prior programming knowledge and want to quickly get into Python, I highly recommend Python Essential Reference by Beazly (he is also the author of SWIG). The 2nd Edition is what I used, the tutorial part is fairly short and simple, the rest of the book is reference.
I spotted a recently released 3rd edition in the bookstores, it is significantly larger than the 2nd edition, and I'm not sure what was added or if the 3rd ed. is as excellent as the 2nd.
