The following is a list of upcoming hearings to be convened by the Committee on Technology in Government. On Monday, June 12, 10:00 AM in the 14th Floor Hearing Room of 250 Broadway, the Committee on Technology in Government, chaired by Council Member Gale Brewer, will be holding an oversight hearing on the topic of mobile workforce technology. DoITT and several other private technology providers are expected to testify. If you or your company is interested in testifying at this hearing, please contact Colleen Pagter at colleen.pagter-at-council.nyc.ny.us or 212-513-1323.
On Tuesday, June 27 at 1:00 PM in the Committee Room, City Hall, the Committee on Technology in Government, chaired by Council Member Gale Brewer, will be holding an oversight hearing. Hearing topic to be determined.

Below is a link to an article on the "unwiring" of the HUB commercial area of the South Bronx, a visionary project by the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO) and Urban Telephone and Video. This groundbreaking "wire cutting" ceremony took place on Thursday May 25, 2006 and was presided over by Council Member Brewer along with Council Member Maria Del Carmen Arroyo.

Building the Broadband Economy 2006, June 8-9, 2006 - New York City The 2006 edition of the Intelligent Community Forum's Building the Broadband Economy conference will take place on Thursday-Friday, June 8-9, 2006 in New York City.
Keynote speakers will include Jerry MacArthur Hultin, president of Polytechnic University and former undersecretary of the US Navy, James Balsillie, Chairman of Research in Motion and the creator of the BlackBerry, and William Eggers, Global Director, Deloitte Research - Public Sector and author of Government 2.0. The conference will also feature one-on-one discussions with the Top Seven Intelligent Communities, announced by ICF in January 2006.
Produced in association with Polytechnic University, Building the Broadband Economy is a meeting place and "idea exchange" for government officials from around the world and their private-sector partners in telecom, IT, consulting, finance and real estate. All are drawn to the conference by the shared challenge facing communities today: to "adapt or die" in the broadband economy of the 21st Century. The ICF conference provides attendees with an international perspective, fosters innovation and helps break down the barriers to cooperation between the public and private sectors. --- Harlem Consumer Education Council (HCEC) is hosting a roundtable discussion on Community Access to Public Technology. The event will be held on June 9, 2006 from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Harlem State Office Building on 125th Street. Various professionals and experts from the telecommunications world will discuss the role of community access in the changing world of communications technology. Some of the other topics that will be discussed are the two recent Senate and one House Bill on the future of the cable franchising agreements as it pertains to public access TV as well as the future development and access of community broadcast platforms (Wi-Fi, low-power radio, public access television, etc). This roundtable discussion will be citywide with representatives from local public access stations and producers, low-power radio, local nonprofits, community organizations, students, community information technology, telecom professionals and others from all the five boroughs. Some of the speakers and panel members are:

Technology - Innovation - the Future: New Perspectives on Adult Day Services, Monday, June 19th 2006, 8:30 am - 1:00 pm The conference is sponsored by The New York State Adult Day Services Association (NYSADSA) Region 8 and co-sponsored by Selfhelp Community Services Inc. and The Brookdale Center on Aging of Hunter College. The mission of NYSADSA is to develop, promote and enhance adult day services as an integral part of the services continuum, through a unified body that provides resources, information, support and public education for the adult day services industry, present and future. The Keynote speaker will be Russ Bodoff, Director of the Center on Aging Services Technologies (CAST) of the American Association of Home and Services for the Aged (AAHSA). Gale Brewer, Chair of the City Council Committee on Technology, will also be speaking at this event.
Panels presentations will include issues on Telemedicine, Transportation Software, Cognitive Stimulation, and In-Home and In-Program RFID/GPS Tracking.
