After about 3 years of being quite about it, the time has come to talk frankly and without flame. The overt interference of individuals who claim to represent groups, have proposefully intefered with the development of Linux and Free Software groups in this city. This is not "Loshen Horah and all that."
The follwoing tactics have been routinely used by known individuals and directly interfer with others:
1 - Domain theft
2 - Packing groups and then taking them over
3 - Using groups for personal gain
4 - Making false accusations of other leaders
5 - Misrepresenting messages and announcements by organizations and then forwarding them to other groups and lists: For example a volunteer meeting becomes a "General Meeting"
6 - Talking in the name of groups without authoirzation
7 - Taking credit for other peoples work
8 - Politicizing groups and work with ancillary political trappings : ie Radicalizing the group
9 - Interfering with the operations of others by making extreme requests on others which can never be satified in full while still working towards the agreed goals ie: insist that members have absolute privacy while trying to generate publicity.
10 - Boycotting individuals without cause - I'm sure you know about that Kevin
11 - Harrassing people: ie calling a groups treasurer at 3AM for a week at a time
and this is a short list.
Nobody wants to go threw this yet again. Everyone wants to work hard, enjoy the comradery and fruits of their work, build a few memories and do something charitable and positive.
Nobody wants to find out that the project they've been working on for 6 months had suddenly been taken over by 10 strangers, half of them leftest radicals, paranoid delusional, and otherwise psycopaths, and then be harrassed at 3AM for months when you try to regain access to your work. This is plain and simple.
So frankly, you can prefer whatever you wish. Start with your own self and don't throw any stones in glass houses. Don't critisize other groups for the things they have accomplished. Don't steal others work. Remain within the confines of your groups charter when you represent your group, and within golden rule when acting as an individual. Be helpful to others when you can. Be mindful of others, and give them the respect they've earned.
Do this and maybe another Orgcom/Freedom-IT can be avoided.
Ruben
