Well, NYLXS already has one going and people are encouraged to come but we still ban people who steal domain names, or do other dishonest things.
The first rule of NYLXS is do no harm and help others.
Last meeting you were berating Ron about if NYLUG is a real or responsible organization. What exactly is the organizational structure of LXNY. Unlike other organzaitons I know of nothing that restricts destructive behaviors that we've and others have experienced within LXNYor GNUBIES. For expample I know CFSG conforms to its bylaws and has internal ways to prevent any of its members from say, running away with a big part of an organizations infrastructure. NYLUG is controlled lock stock and barrel by Jim Gleason with help of his trusted advisors, DeLUDGE runs in a larger chartered organization. What reins in LXNY or GNUBIES members from leveraging the volunteer hours given by unexpirienced High School Students or others, and then walking away with fruit of those hours of work because someone is having a Zyprexa moment.
One thing people should be concerned with is that what they are becoming involved with an orgnaizational structure which protects them. Otherwise this will end up a waste like a number of other "efforts" similarly constructed. There is no reason to rush into anything. NYLUG, unaffiliated volunteers, NYLXS members et al can take the necessary time to build something more lasting.
When Peter and Ron are ready I suppose they'll make whatever announcements they need to tell folks what is likely the next step in terms of NYLUG specific events. I respect 100% their legitimate leadership positions within NYLUG. I would expect that others will like-wise do the same.
Just my two cents.
