The reference was to the statements, as I understood them, that no Open Source advocates publically said that their software freedom was any less important to them than the Free Software Advocates.
No only did Augustine clearly say this, in "Freedom OS - the movie" amoung other places, but clearly this has been repeated by others, including Bruce Perens when we were arguing about the egov-os meeting in Washington DC, and this latest one from the "Linux Journal" editor.
And then there was Linus's lovely DRM is not really theft statement just prior to the DMCA meetings. Those were great fodder for Time-Warner that the DMCA hearings. The propensity for Free Software leaning groups to self-destruct has been very disheartening over the years.
And while all these good folks may not be card carrying members of the OSI, they are clearly precieved by the general public as being "Open Source" advocates.
I'm not certain if the very intelligent people who promote the lines of reasoning such as we witnessed by "The Linux Journal" editors editorial from February, the one I sent at the start of this thread, fully comprehend just how much damage they are doing to their own self interests for the comfort of a short term solution.
The fundemental error here is that Free Software is ***not*** about technology. It is ***all** about politics and impact of technology on society (and business). Furthermore, for a proprietory peice of software, say MAC-OS, its not about the technology either. It is ***all*** about business and their business model is to enslave the user. They are never interested in enabling the user with technology. If they were, their systems would work like GNU/Linux instead of the twisted junk that they are.
