I think a Linux desktop can work for pedestrian users too.
My dad just surfs ebay and does a little photo editting. Types simple things a few times. Thats about it. Doesn't have to use random cornball hardware he finds at the bargain basket at compusa every day. Doesn't download and run any random shareware program that catches his fancy. He just does the same things. Like a utility, almost.
I think an Ubuntu box would work well then that. And either way, whether it is running Winxp or Linux, when something goes wrong, I get called.
