INTRODUCTION:

At a prior meeting, Unigroup held a Field Trip to CA on the topic
of the INGRES Open Source Database. This month's meeting on MySQL
will be the next in a series of meetings leading up to the general
topic of LAMP - Linux Apache MySQL Perl/PHP/Python, which
represents the most popular collection of open source tools for
creating [what the WikiPedia calls] an "Open Source Web Platform".
A meeting on PHP will probably be the next in this series.

MAIN PRESENTATION OUTLINE:
--------------------------

Topic: The MySQL Relational Database, Version 5.0, and Beyond
------------------------------------------------------

In this presentation, Hans Zaunere of New York PHP will give us
a technical/developers talk about the MySQL Relational Database
Management System (RDBMS), and what has made it the de-facto
drop-in solution for small to medium sized data storage needs.

The following topics will be discussed as time permits:
- Overview of various Open Source databases.
- History and overview of MySQL.
- Comparisons to databases such as PostgreSQL.
- Discuss fundamentals of:
- MySQL Multiple storage engine architecture.
- MySQL Lightweight installation, maintenance, and use.
- MySQL APIs.
- MySQL High Traffic Databases.
- MySQL Large Dataset Databases.
- Five Nines with MySQL.

Hans will highlight the new features of version 5.0, as MySQL
enters the enterprise database market. MySQL 5.0 combines
years of open source development and community feedback to
provide more advanced features, while maintaining the ease of
use and deployment that has made MySQL the most popular open
source database, from large to small deployments.

Lastly, looks into the future will be presented, highlighting
the MySQL 5.1 roadmap, MySQL Cluster, and the impact of recent
acquisitions of MySQL supporting companies.

Speaker Biography:
------------------

Hans Zaunere is President and Founder, New York PHP. He is also a
central figure in New York's technical landscape, having
co-founded New York's BSD group, and co-organized technical events
and PHP conferences.

Since the early 1990's, Mr. Zaunere has maintained leadership roles
in mission critical, classified, and cutting-edge technical
environments. As a fulltime analyst for NYU Medical, and a network
security administrator prior to that, Mr. Zaunere proved the
business case of open source by developing reliable and effective
systems that integrated with commercial technology.

Having moved to MySQL, Inc., Mr. Zaunere worked as a senior
consultant and sales engineer, providing mission critical strategic
and architectural guidance for Fortune 500 companies across North
America, Europe and Asia.

Today Mr. Zaunere operates New York PHP and New York PHP Community
fulltime, supporting the "business community" by uniting dot-com
with dot-org and managing a team of technology professionals. Under
Mr. Zaunere's leadership, New York PHP develops and supports
critical systems for the financial, medical, and military spaces.
New York PHP Community continues as the largest PHP group, thanks
to the involvement of thousands worldwide, and a timeline and
who's who of the PHP and open source community.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Company Biography:
------------------

Founded in 2001 by Hans Zaunere, New York PHP quickly grew to be a
leader of open source communities and business solutions. Backed
by one of the world's strongest technical communities and selected
IT professionals, New York PHP combines skill and stability. By
uniting the strengths of dot-com and dot-org, we deliver the next
generation of technology support, service, product and networking
events and conferences.
