Is Java a hard requirement? I personally dont see any benefit in converting anything to Java regardless of how the code is written. Java's interpreter is a resource hog and inefficient. Granted in this day and age machines are faster and bus pipeline design is continually being maximized. But still, something always crops up that slows the application response because it is writen in Java. In terms if ease of usability Python is a much better alternative, it is similar in some ways terms of syntax to Java. Python was designed with system efficiency in mind from the start and the the learning curve is the same if not slighty flatter than Java's.
But thats just one mans opinion.
