I am now thinking a little bit clearer. If it is a linux floppy image you should not have a file linux.tgz, you should have a file .img which should be aprox 1.44 meg if that was the case then you would be able to do a dd (if you are running a linux system) or using the program rawrite.exe to write it to a floppy disk if you are using a windows system. for linux the command would be dd if=(filename).img of=/dev/fd0H1440 bs=18k
If they gave you just a file linux.tgz then something is funky because that would be just the kernel and you need to have a pretty small kernel for a floppy distribution. It would NOT be 2meg.
