SENIOR DATABASE ADMINISTRATORS The New York City Police Department is seeking qualified IT professionals with expertise in database administration to provide senior level technical expertise, leadership in z/Series z/900 and/or z/990 Based Mainframe and p/Series UNIX Server Data Management; including Data Architecture, Data Management Design, Data Modeling, Data Marts and Sources, ETL, Data Mining, Data Warehousing and Database Administration. Perform planning and design, coding, modeling, customization, migration and implementation, problem determination and identification through resolution in a OS/390 and/or z/OS parallel sysplex and GDPS environment, z/VM LINUX and p/Series UNIX Server platform. Develop performance monitoring techniques and implement tuning solutions without loss of data integrity. Assist Management with strategy development of Data Management departmental goals and objectives. Preferred Skills Extensive experience with expert knowledge of IBM S/390 and/or z/Series based mainframes and IBM RISC and/or p/Series UNIX/AIX Servers with Data Management, Data Architecture and Data Warehousing. This is to include IBM DB2 UDB for S/390 and UNIX/AIX, Data Modeling, Data Marts, Data Sources, ETL, Data Mining and Database Administration. Preferred expert knowledge in SAG Adabas, CA-IDMS and MS SQL Server. Experience in zOS, OS/390, MVS, VM, AIX, UNIX, LINUX, Assembler, COBOL, PL/I, Java, C, XML/HTML, database and programming language tools and utilities, propagation tools – DpropR, CASE tools, Cognos, Rational and OLAP. Database skill requirements include design, planning, data access, data warehousing, data acquisition, data propagation, SQL, data extraction, data transformation, edit and data load, coordination and implementation, customization, code and unit testing, conversion/migration through production implementation and query design for performance. Data Management also includes problem determination and identification through problem resolution, monitoring through performance optimization using expert knowledge, tools and utilities, security, LDAP and data integrity. In addition, excellent written and verbal English communication skills are needed. Must take initiative and show confidence. Creative thinkers are desired and must be able to manage tasks through to completion without significant guidance. Qualification Requirements Professional/Vendor certification is required in one of the following: IBM Certified Advanced Database Administrator-DB2 Universal Database v8.1 for Linux, Unix, and Windows IBM Certified Advanced Database Administrator-DB2 UDB (Universal Database) v8.1 for Linux, Unix, and Windows IBM Certified Solutions Designer-DB2 Business Intelligence V8 IBM Solutions Expert-DB2 Content Manager OnDemand Multiplatform IBM Solutions Expert-DB2 UDB (Universal Database) V7.1 Database Administration for OS/390 or Z/Os In addition, all candidates must have the following: 1. A Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of full time (not classroom) experience in database administration planning, design, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management; or 2. A High School diploma or its educational equivalent and 6 years of full time experience, 2 years of which must be as described in “1" above. 3. A Master’s Degree may substitute for one year of experience. However, all candidates must possess one year of full time (not classroom) experience as described in “1" above. Salary ranges from $61,522 to $80,506 commensurate with experience and salary history.
