Free Software is defined by the FSF, and others, as a thing, Software with licensing that promotes its hacking and using, and the redistribution of such.
Open Source is a term created by the OSI which I believe might be trademarked, which is a marketing concept to promote certain free software, and some not so free software as well (although I doubt that was the intention).
Free Software requires freedom. Open Source is a concept focused on source code access...which is not a guarantee of software freedom.
