Minutes of Meeting
NYLXS Fundraising and Grant committee.
Location: Villa Pizza
Date: Wednesday, May 18, 2005
Time : 12:50pm to 2:30pm
Attendees: Dave S., Michael G., Charles N.
Michael gave us an overview of his excursion on Penguin Day (May 7th).
He made mention of several Open Source software companies. Each of them
gave a
ten minute presentation of their products. All of the products were
designed for
use by non-profit organizations. Some of the programs were databases,
web
content creators, scheduling calendars and project management software.
Charles proposed that the fundraising and Grant committee rule out the
use of
wagering (games of chance) and lottery forms as a means of raising
funds. It
was brought out in the discussion that we would need a defined number of
committed members to go out and get people to sign up for a lottery. We
also
don’t have enough members to make it worth our time.
Committee has agreed to shorten it’s title to “ The NYLXS Grant
Proposal
Committee”.
In this way we can narrow our focus on the many tasks involved with the
preparation, planning and development of the grant proposal.
Dave S will provide committee with 2 sample RFP’s for familiarity with
process and requirements necessary for the writing of the NYLXS grant.
Review of
selected funding organizations will begin after required training has
been
completed by all members of Grant Proposal committee.
Dave S is preparing a binder that will keep records of all meetings an
correspondence generated by the NYLXS grant proposal project.
Review of where we are in terms of The Foundation basic Grant course.
Dave S has completed basic workshop.
Charles is on schedule for first week of June.
Michael will get rescheduled in first or second week of June.
