Ah, one of those. They get under my skin as well. In the accounting software world, it's quite common to write everything in BASIC (though not VB but that'd hardly be any worse), and use lots of 3rd party crap like Crystal Reports, such that you need a small nuclear power plant of a PC just to generate an invoice. For this, they charge you an obscene amount of money.
That's just the sad part. The part I find annoying is that this "professional" work is exactly the "promise of Microsoft", in that "anyone, even managers can to what used to require a programmer." So even when their stuff is working more or less the way it's supposed to, it's still abominable.
