Actually, upon re-reading some of this, they clearly state they're not going to stop developing the standalone version. However, I wouldn't put much faith in them continuing to support two versions, and I seriously doubt the Linux version is the one they'll drop. The native version is inherently less useful, while being more work to develop. Or at least that's what I would think. You on the other hand, actually know what you're talking about in this area, so I'm interested in what your take on that is.
