SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] [Fwd: [IP] Supporters of NSF should step up]

The National Science Foundation has been involved in birthing or looking after many things we now take for granted, including the Internet. Given that we seem to have endless amounts of money in this country for highly dubious projects and pork, I'm sure Congress can cough up a few extra bucks for the NSF.

Congressman Ehlers is circulating a memo to his colleagues in the House of Representatives, asking them to add their names to a request to keep NSF funded at a reasonable level. He points out that NSF funding builds for the national future in many ways.
Readers in the US who are in favor of adequate funding of NSF should contact their elected representatives and urge them to co-sign the letter. A phone call or fax would help.
Copies of the memo and the joint letter are enclosed. They don't ask for anything outrageous. In fact, they amounts sought won't even fix the problems identified in recent reports (dismal acceptance rates, problems in funding cybersecurity, etc). However, it would at least keep the NSF from making deeper cuts in an already dismal budget.
