Two issues on this. First, yes I've hand nearly the same exact problem with the Nvidia proprietary drivers. Especially with the screen savers.
Another problem is that this is not limited to NVidia. I've had huge problems with an e-comerce machine, dell laptops neomagic chips in the old days, etc. On a new laptop, it is a lot easier for me to just not worry and bye everything working from Emperor
