Minutes of the NYLXS Board Meeting of Wednesday March 16 2005.
The Meeting opened in the Marriot Lounge at 6:30 p.m.
In attendance: Ruben Safir Charles Nardino Michael Richardson P. Robert Marino Evan Inker Joe Grastara David Spira Steven Milo Joanne Cripps
Elections for the Board offices:
Ruben Safir nominated and elected President. Rob Marino nominated and elected Vice President. Michael Richardson nominated and elected Secretary. Steven Milo nominated and elected Treasurer. Joe Grastara nominated and elected 2nd Vice President. J.E. Cripps nominated and elected recording secretary.
Appointments to the NYLXS committees:
FSI: Rob Marino FSCC: Evan Inker Journal: J.E. Cripps PR: Michael Richardson Finance: Steven Milo Membership: no appointment
Ruben Safir moved that Freedom I.T. be scheduled in the first week of September 2005. This motion carried.
Ruben Safir moved that an scholarship award of $2,000.00 USD be awarded to a high school student with the best project in Free Software. $1,000.00 is available now. The rest must be raised. This motion carried.
[Discussion during this motion about what constitutes Free Software. This first award is probably not conditioned upon the applicant NYLXS participation?]
[Discussion of procedure for scholarship award, and issues of originality and plagiarism]
Steve Milo moved that pre-registration (pre-attendance) and post-attendance surveys of Freedom IT participants be done, and statistical analyses of these. This motion carried.
A motion that Freedom I.T. be under the aegis of the P.R. committee.
[Discussion of I.R.S. fundraising requirements. David Spira has made some grant writing templates/models available. Joe Grastara will convert them from .pdf format to .html]
[Discussion of group mores and communicational norms. There was a consensus that negative statement about persons rather than issues be avoided but no motion.]
[Discussion of an immediate fundraiser. Various ideas and locations mooted.]
A motion to table discussion of the fundraiser to the list was carried.
[Dicussion of future meetings, Tech Nights and Kings' Games location. No motion.]
