SUBJECT | Re: [hangout] Freedom-IT Meeting Notes
|
Planning meeting for Freedom IT 2005 at Killarney Rose
March 25 2005.
Present: Rob Marino, Ruben Safir, Joanne Cripps
Major topic of discussion was the partially funded scholarship. Rob Marino said it would not be convincing to notify schools until a larger percentage of the funds obtained. Discussed various corporate and foundation sponsors. Debated whether to notify schools individually or districts.
Procedures for evaluating the projects discussed. Difficulties of ascertaing originality (not copied or plagiarized)
Projects must run on a Free OS (e.g. FreeBSD, Linux) and compile on a Free Compiler (e.g. gcc/g++).
Proposed that three judges do the preliminary evaluation of projects for inclusion in Freedom IT sessions and 3 judges of our choice do the judging at Freedom IT.
Rating of projects proposed using the following scale:
* Addresses a known deficiency, need, etc. 20% * Has a signficant potential user base 10% * Craftsmanship 10% * Originality 10% (Does not preclude building on an existing code base or using other Free Software) * Ease of use 15% * Existence, adequacy, and completeness of documentation 20% * Investigation of theoretical issues 10% * Attractivness, esthetics. 5%
Ruben noted that he believed he could get an affordable meeting space but did not state specifics.
