Ugh... That is not the moral of the story by a long shot.
Personally, I'm amazed the anyone would "register" or "active" their software in order to use their computer. Even worse, I can't imagine anyone troubleshooting a failed activation process.
The moral of the story is "You need to reclaim your computer".
