It should be clear to everyone in the Free Software business that we've
reached a point where there is a recovery underway in the job market.
But it looks like that market is significantly changed and I'm wondering
how permanent it is.
We would all expect that salaries from the roaring '90's wouldn't be
matched, but did anyone else notice this wanted add in the Linux Journal
this month?
Somebody put significant money in a help wanted add in The Linux Journal
for the following skills:
Duties:
Determining the most appropriate communications solutions for our
international organization with regards to a particular problem based
on risk, cost and other requirements.
Ability to collect call detail records from TDM of Soft Switches
Requirments:
Expert knowledge of Free OS's a Cisco
Design and code billing software based on freeRadius, Postgres SQL and
VoIP and Soft Switches based on H323 and SIP
5 years Telcom experience
Detailed knowledge of various telcom products
Understanding WAN techonolgies T-1, Frame Relay, ISDN, ATM etc
Cignizance of international telcom laws
Ability to remotely install CPE equiptment
Masters Degree
SALARY ---- $48,000

Expertise in Free Radius alone should get you at least $60K. Do they
think every computer expert is a 19 year old College Sophomore with a
big ego and no interest in a life?

It's not cheap to get a 1/4 plus size add in The Linux Journal. What's
up with this? Can anyone see an IT guild and union in the future?
