Ruben Sun and Kodak settle out of court Contributed by Mahendra Hora

As we reported previously, Kodak filed a lawsuit against Sun Microsystems claiming that the company had infringed on its patents by implementing "ask for help" functionality in its Java programming language, which gave a huge boost to the company's yearly sales revenue. The "ask for help" feature allows a certain application to execute and use another application in order to complete a certain task.
After the jury favored Kodak and another court date was set to settle the damages, Sun Microsystems and Kodak agreed to settle their dispute outside the court. Sun has agreed to license Kodak's patents for $92 million.
This marked the end of a two year old dispute over patent infringement between the two companies. Sun Microsystems insisted that it has not infringed any Kodak patents and even went on to state that Kodak's patents were invalid, but Kodak proved otherwise by submitting substantial evidence and documents in the court. Kodak said that it acquired the rights to Wang Laboratories Inc.'s patents when it bought the company for $260 million in 1997. The patents in question are 5,206,951, 5,421,012 and 5,226,161.
