* Do I need a computer? Every entering student must have a
notebook computer for use with the VitalBook DVD, the video DVD
and other programs, and for use in our facility for clinical
simulation and foundation skills
* Why do we strongly recommend IBM & Dell? You will need to rely
on this computer for four years. We have worked with many
computers over the last several years and have found the
reliability, service, and warranty of the Dell Latitude and IBM
ThinkPad to be excellent, and strongly recommend them. The NYU
Computer Store has worked closely with representatives from Dell
& IBM in attractively pricing these computers significantly
under list price for students.
* What software / programs should I know before starting school?
You should know how to use Microsoft Word & PowerPoint.
Familiarization with an email program and use of the Internet is
recommended.
* Will I need a printer? A printer is strongly recommended to
print material for studying and assignments.
* Will my computer purchase & VitalBook be covered by financial
aid? The VitalBook is considered a textbook and the annual fee
for the VitalBook will be covered by financial aid. A fee will
be incorporated into your student bill that will cover the
VitalBook. Your computer purchase is necessary for the VitalBook
and other programs, and it will qualify for financial aid as
well.
* Can I purchase a computer now to get a head start? You can begin
to purchase a computer now or wait until the summer but you must
have a computer during orientation. You will be able to purchase
a computer during orientation as well. During orientation we
will need to obtain information from your computer and configure
it for use in your first dental course, which begins on August
4, 2004 (class of 2007AP) or August 30, 2004 (class of 2008),
called “Application of Technology in Health & Health Practice”.
* Where should I purchase my computer? The NYU Computer Store has
worked closely with representatives from Dell & IBM in
attractively pricing these computers significantly under list
price for students. The NYU Computer Store has all the computer
equipment, software & accessories you require. In addition, NYU
