Good, better sooner rather than later. GNU/Linux has been riding on the coattails of popularity long enough. Its time the community'(or the companys making the distros) got their collective ass in gear and started pushing this thing. If Novell or HP dont push Suse or a better distro on the desktop then they lack the intestinal fortitude required to compete.
If it fuels an industry that creates a stabler and simlarly free alternative to microsofts monopoly so much the better. Then perhaps ´Computer Scientists´ would have earned their lofty title.
But the fact of the matter is that GNU/Linux is more secure and stabler than microsoft. Look at all the apps that come with a GNU/Linux distro, look at all those choices. You couldnt run that many different applications on a windows machine. An ms box would choke.
