Notes after Taking the NYLXS Server Apart:
Single CPU Small Form AT Motherboard
RIMM (RAMBUS Memory PC800-40 or PC800-45 Chips installed 2 x 128 MB =256 Meg RAM Total) 2 Free Slots (1 Bank ) Available for population
Hard Drives (2) are 68 Pin Seagate 18 Gig Ultra 2 UW SCSI Drives attached to Adapatec AHA-2940U2W SCSI Host Adapter. SCSI Chain and Cable can support more drives if need be....
Recommendations (No, I am not offering to buy the equipmment but I'll do the work for free!!)
1. Additional RAM is needed badly Quote for additional 512MB Upgrade is approx. $150 to $250 depending on new or used memory. I upgraded my Dell Precision 530 from 512MB to 1024 Meg for $150. (used memory from Ebay). If Possible I would say to add at least 1 Gig upgrade to bring NYLXS Server to 1256 Meg RAM. 512 Meg RAM with Suse 9.1 and Spamassassin is just going to be too painful....You need at least 1 Gig to be comfortable
2. Additional Disk Storage Needed Add Third SCSI Drive..Seagate Cheetah 10K Ultra320 SCSI 36.7 Gig Cost $150.00 New

The following is a summary of our meeting yesterday for the plans for October, 2004 and a few extra points I'm adding to the bottom from the meeting last month:
Point: Brooklyn Tech High School
We discussed various ways to approach Brooklyn Tech. Ruben wants to hand out disks and literature at the school for recruitment. Paul wants to wait for 4 months because the tech support contact at BT is having hardware problems. Ruben pointed out that we would be waiting almost until the graduation like that.
Consensus is to discuss where and when to give out flyers and disks there.
Point: The webserver needs upgrading of RAM.
Ruben: Spamassasin is choking the server and it is time to upgrade Evan: We'll open the box sunday night at technight and see what kind of ram it is
Point: The website needs to be redone
Ruben: I'm not doing it Michael: We'll need to get someone on it Evan: WHERE IS AKBAR!
Point: Classes scheduled for October
Evan - we need instructors Ruben - I will teach GNU/Linux 1 and Perl if need be Evan - You said we need to get instructors and take better pocession of Kings Games Ruben - Well - yes that too Peter - Offer a free class for Brooklyn Tech Students All - good Idea
Consensus: New classes are being scheduled and GNU/Linux 1 will be offered BT students
Note: We will probibly be able to run a class out of Midtown from a contact I made, see further emails to hangout this week.
Point: Finances: We need more money
Other Notes:
Ruben will be giving a class at PC Expo in October A NYLXS Journal meeting will be called this week for next week Paul will be calling for a meeting of the Educational Subcommittee
