SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] BIOS Virus?
|
Is it possible to get a virus on a BIOS through W2K that affects everthing you do on the system?
I tried installing Suse 9.1, I removed all the hard drives installed one seperate hd. Wiped it clean, and when I tried to install 9.1 it hung, numerous times. I checked the log screen and there was either an error decompressing or an inode was locked and couldnt be written to or read from.
This machine is a Celeron with 256m of memory, hd is 6gb, it is an HP Brio with Pheonix BIOS. I have tried a basic install and a minimal install. I tried installing with safe mode (nodma, acpi-off, apm-off then with dma, acpi- off, apm on). I also reset the BIOS a few times.
The manual says I should set system BIOS shadowing to off. There is no setting for that in this thing.
