Whatever a Brio might be the fact of the matter is that I have spent the last two weeks trying to install 9.1 on this box with some success. But not enough where I can walk away from this machine and be able to do 'tech support' over the phone if I have to.
I had 8.2 Pro on this before until I decided to install 9.1, thats when everything fell through the bottom. The thing is that this problem doesnt seem to be isolated to the Brio. There is an AMD on another table that I used to install 9.1. With similar difficulty, in fact that was the only way I could get a completely installed distro transfered to the Brio. I installed it through the AMD and transfered the HD to the Brio. But the AMD also had a few moments of hesitation with 'decompression error' and 'locked inode'. I had to reboot that machine once or twice to get 9.1 to install. When I transfered the HD to the Brio I get the 'locked inode' error again. The gui gives me all sorts of users to choose from in the login screen for logging in (postfix, bin, ftp, etc-etc).
Sadly, w2k (re)installs on the Brio with far less difficulty. I ask about viruses because I ran an anti virus and w2k did a memory dump and rebooted. Afterwards I couldnt boot back in. Luckily there is another HD available to me so no data was lost in this experiment.
In any event, this is the hardware available to me at this point I cant do much about it right now. It would go a long way if I can get this install to work.
The fact that the weather is dry here is not lost on me and the chance of these machines suffering from ESD is not remote.
