uh what is "the desktop"?
Can we (who are supposed to be computer literate) stop abusing this term (which is nothing more than marketing lingo) and be a little more specific?
That said, GNU/Linux runs perfectly on my desktops (all of them) as well as my servers.
So the question really is whether or not the OS is ready for YOUR desktop. This is a question only you can answer.
