SUBJECT | Re: [hangout] Spam Assasin is a COMPLETE Piece of ...
|
This is docuemented that the files are applied alphabetically.
That being said, a few things I'm observing and a few comments.
First of all, I ****stand**** by the subject of this thread. SpamAssasin is really a lousey program with a poor design. I asked if you've ever seen the program pin your computers load, and you replied yes.....
Well, in my book, this is the definition of a poor design. Then you said that if you use the program as designed, and, and I'm paraphrasing here, and you put in bad input, well, you can expect it to bomb. Ummmm ... no. Just adding something to the bayes filters in the normal way can not bomb the program and the system if the program is designed securely and properly.
I'd like to add that the installation of all the parts is a royal PIA, because the experts putting together the remote blocking lists are not co-operating and are being bigoted. I, for example, HATE PHP. But I use it and write in it when working with PHPGroupware, because that is the standard for the project. Having to install the latest greatest python just to get a greater level of functionality from SA is just not exceptable.
In addition, the external databases themselves, including the reporting features has become a full time war. They people just won't get together and create a single working standard. They are apearantly waiting for Microsoft to force one on them.
Now, as I'm reading things, I'm coming to understand that by default the spamd dameon (if that is not redundant) by default, refuses to work with user spamassasin configuration files because of the ****security hole****...wonderful. How about making the darn thing secure!
The documentation is HORENDOUS. It is more Horendous than than my spelling. No clear thought has been given to documentaiton at all. I've got 500 sheets of paper printed and no useful information. Someone is bucking for a book contract.
Lastly, this this is ***designed*** to easy administration of spam. With as much time as I've spent reading about it, playing with it, administrating it, debugging it, teaching it, and wondering why its not doing that it says it should, and rebooting the system when it pins my server, its usefulness in its primary mission is looking increasingly dubious.
