Ruben Safir is the energenic founder of several important New York City area Free Software projects, including the founding of NYLXS and New Yorkers for Fair Use, now called the New York Association of Copyright Stakeholders.
Published auther in the "Linux Journal", and written about in O'Reilly and other publications for his political activism in issues of Digital Rights and Copyright.
His resume includes the action at the Department of Commerce at the DRM hearings with NYLXS and NYFairUse, 2 Free Software business expos, the short lives NYLXS Radio Show, presentations of the Libre Software Meeting in France, publication of the NYLXS Quarterly Journal, architect of the Free Software Chamber of Commerce, helping lead the New York Free Dmitry protests at the New York Public Library on 5th Avenue in Manhattan, and author of the Free Software Institutes GNU/Linux 1 book and Perl Programming classes, and one of the major forces behind the upcoming Freedom-IT Expo slated for August of 2005 in New York City.
Ruben (41) is a Registered Pharmacist with advanced degrees in Physical Chemistry and taught computing and programing at both CUNY and the New School. He currently lives in his childhood home of Brooklyn, NY with his 6 children and wife, Ellen.
