A kernel compile is a kernel compile and you shouldn't have any trouble with them. You did this during the GNU/Linux 1 class. The windows codecs, I know nothing about whatsoever. However, anything that can be done on one distro can be done on another. Perhaps winerack. What do you need to view window media player files for? More Pron site surfing?
