Have you been considering Linux but aren't sure how to go about it? Alex Genna, NYPC's knowledgeable and enthusiastic network administrator, will guide you in getting started with Linux on your computer! What a great way to spend a summer day--in our air-conditioned facility learning about one of the coolest technologies around!
This class is a *brief* 6-hr. guided exploration of Linux for people with NO Prior Experience with Linux or other *nix-like OS. Please arrive a few minutes early: we will be starting promptly at 10AM ...but it's your $Buck. The following s a look at the topics that will be covered:

PART II - "Open for Business" 1:00 (1)Apt-Advanced Package Tool (Stable, Testing, Unstable) (2)Acrobat on Linux (3)OpenOffice.org (4)Bluefish & Cssed (5)The Gimp (6)Email - Evolution, Kmail....or whatever (7)Irc and how to get help when you lose your way (8)Back-up Your system 2:30(45) Q and A Part II
PART III - "You and Your Stuff" 3:00 (1)CD Burning (1)Mp3's etc... Multimedia Players (2)USB Stuff - Scanners, Printers etc... 4:15 - 5:00 For the last 45 minutes we'll do a final Q and A, and explore any application type you need but did not cover. (if I know of them)
