Outline of the Main Presentation:
---------------------------------

Solaris 10 is the latest UNIX OS from Sun Microsystems. It is being
billed as the Next Generation Datacenter OS, and is unique due to the
number of key technologies that have sedimented into it.

N1 Grid Containers gives customers the ability to virtualize the OS,
allows hundreds of applications to run on a single instance of the OS,
however giving the applications the illusion of their own OS instance.

DTrace is the next generation observability tool that allows
application developers to watch the interaction between their
applications and the kernel. Using DTrace, developers have managed to
get anywhere from 40-2000% performance improvements on previous "well
tuned" code.

Solaris 10 also introduces a brand-new filesystem, codenamed ZFS.
ZFS is a 128-bit "volume-manager less", corruption-free
blazing-fast-performance filesystem.

Solaris Fault Manager provides a predictive self-healing environment
to applications. And these are only the first 4 of 300 new features
that have been introduced into Solaris 10.

# Unix Systems Administrator at financial firms on or near Wall Street.
He
# can be found installing systems and writing automation components at

# During the dot-com implosion, Keith was immersed in the Linux/BSD
# world and didn't emerge unscathed. Working as the head of digital

# infrastructure at Fulcrum Analytics (a database marketing and analytics
# firm), he enjoyed a heavy dose of open-source philosophy and
eventually,
# business reality.
#
# His primary professional computing interests include large-scale
systems
# architecture, automation and monitoring. Personally, he uses a
Macintosh
