SUBJECT | RE: [hangout] RAM for Suse 9.1
|
The problem I'm having is trying to install it on a machine with w2k on it. The machine is an HP Brio, I installed Suse 8.1 with no problems. There are two hard drives in this machine, w2k is sitting on the first hard drive. The second hd is is a 20gb with about 5gb partitioned for win.
When I try to install the X gui fails and I am presented with a plain gui. I go through the packages, etc if the packages start installing it will fail, the machine will freeze. I dont recall the exact error message but when the kernel boots HDC is detected as a 6gb hard drive. I have seen some websites say that I should pass the HD parameters to the kernel at boot time. Doing that solved nothing. I have also read that I should wipe both hard drives clean partition them both with fdisk then install w2k and 9.1. That option may not be possible, I dont have anything to back this stuff onto.
I probably should up the RAM the HD thrashes even when running w2k.
