News Story by Scarlet Pruitt JUNE 28, 2004 (IDG NEWS SERVICE) - Hewlett-Packard Co. shored up its enterprise offerings today, unveiling a desktop PC, three workstations and backup and recovery software as it continues to tout its Adaptive Enterprise strategy. The HP Compaq Business desktop dc7100 is the first in the company's 7000 series line, featuring extended life-cycle management of at least 15 months, as well as improved manageability and security features, the company said.
The PC is based on Intel Corp.'s 915G chip set and comes in a choice of three designs -- ultraslim desktop, small form factor and convertible minitower. It features HP's new Altiris Recovery software for PC backup, restoration and recovery and HP's ProtectTools Embedded Security Manager. Customers can also choose to customize the dc7100 with Intel's Pentium 4 HyperThread-enabled processors, Microsoft Corp.'s Windows XP operating system, a 160GB hard drive, up to 4GB of DDR synchronous dynamic RAM and a choice of optical drives.
The dc7100 will be available worldwide in early July and will have an estimated price of $749 in the U.S.
The company also rolled out three workstations aimed at the design and engineering, digital content creation, financial services and geographical information markets.
The entry-level HP Workstation xw4200 is based on Intel's 925X Express chip set and Intel Pentium 4 with Intel EM64T. It will be offered directly through HP and by its distribution partners. The new HP Workstation xw4200, xw6200 and xw8200 support Microsoft's Windows XP Professional as well as Red Hat Inc.'s Enterprise Linux WS 3.0 operating systems.
The xw6200 and xw8200 are available now for $1,399 and $1,799, respectively. The HP xw4200 is expected to be available in July starting at an estimated price of $849, HP said.
