SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Meeting Minutes from NYLXS Meeting Thurs, June 10, 2004
|
Greetings All!
A synopsis of the aforementioned meeting can be found below:
Meeting Attendees:
Mike Richardson Peter Siegel Ruben Safir Ray Connelly (Always a Pleasure Ray!) Joe Grastara Steve Milo Adam Kosmin Joanna Cripps Paul Robert Marino (Apologies for anyone omissions I may have made)
Discussions included at this meeting were: 1. Software Freedom Day 2004 (August 28, 2004) Preparations for Software Freedom Day are still being formed within a core group of NYLXS (Mike Richardson, Evan Inker, Steve Milo, Adam Kosmin & Ruben Safir). We still need to formulate a time and place to film the SFD Video Clips we had decided upon earlier in May 2004 as well as get members to submit their filming notes. Handouts at SFD will be a bootable Linux Distro (leaning towards Mempis or Knoppix Linux) as well as The OpenCD which NYLXS will be producing as well as customized CD labels. As reported by Evan, the SFD Project has not secured any sponsors sp each group must fend for itself in terms of Capital Expenditure layout (aka Money for stuff) and pressed CDs will need to be purchased, hence the reason NYLXS should do their own. Literature for SFD will also need to be produced as well locally. Funding for approximately 500 Blank CDs would be US $150.00. Funds will need to be secured for this project ASAP. CDs as well as literature will be produced by NYLXS members..... 2. Freedom IT 2005 The Freedom-IT 2005 Conference was discussed briefly. A separate planning and implementation meeting for Freedom-IT was called due to its complex nature and need to be discussed as a stand-alone-alone project. Date is still pending for the Freedom IT Meeting....
3. Free Software Classes (FSI) FSI Free Software Classes are tentatively scheduled to resume the week of July 12. Joe Grastara has graciously consented to doing a UNIX 1 and/or Unix 2 course on Tuesday Evening and Ruben Safir will be doing a Perl 1 Course on Thursday Evenings. In addition, Class space in Manhattan was brought up by Ruben and will need to be addressed. Announcements and flyers will be needed to be posted ASAP and volunteers are being sought.
4. Educational Initiative Rob Marino will be doing an Educational Initiative during the Week for June 21, 2004 at a Manhattan location to be announced later. Rob will be hosting an NYC Educational Round Table with several NYC Administrators as well as two or three NYLXS group members. Please note that this Round Table Initiative will be by Invitation Only....
