I wish it were that easy. If there's anything I've learned from trying
to raise funds for this cause, it's that nothing happens without direct
personal communication. The broadcast approach has generated exactly $17.
Therefore, I see two options. I can either admit to myself that the
F/OSS community does not recognize the value in addressing the (long
overdue) issue involving the Microsoft Tax and simply walk away, or I
can fund the case myself. Aside from the personal burden I'd be taking
on by choosing the latter, I should point out that the real danger lies
in the possibility of starting something that may not be finished (due
to limited resources). If that ends up being the case, then the campaign
looses much more than a simple court case; it loses momentum, time, and
quite possibly, the endorsement of one very competent lawyer who has
come forward in an honest attempt to help us.
So to answer your question more directly, the original message was
specifically targeted to groups who I'd tend to think have the type of
connections I'm interested in connecting with. Over the past year, I've
grown a bit tired of having my rants published and giving interviews
expressing the campaign. The word is out and the time has come to either
make some progress or accept the fact that progress will not be made.
Realizing this, it only makes sense for me to try and connect with
like-minded individuals. I'd appreciate any leads or introductions you
can offer :)
